Getting Started

What is Planit Fi?

Planit Fi is a free personal finance planning tool built for beginners. You answer a short questionnaire about your income, expenses, debts, and goals, and we generate a personalized dashboard with your net worth projection, debt payoff timeline, budget breakdown, and action steps.

Think of it as mission control for your money. You don't need to be a finance expert to use it.

Do I need any financial knowledge to use Planit Fi?

Not at all. Planit Fi is specifically designed for people who are just getting started with personal finance. The questionnaire uses plain language, and your dashboard explains everything in terms you can actually understand. No jargon, no assumptions about what you already know.

How long does it take to get my plan?

About five minutes. You fill out a guided questionnaire about your income, expenses, debts, and goals. Once you submit, your personal dashboard generates instantly with your net worth projection, debt payoff timeline, budget breakdown, and recommended next steps.

Do I need to connect my bank account?

No. Planit Fi never asks you to link a bank, brokerage, or credit card account. You enter the numbers you're comfortable sharing manually. This is a deliberate design choice. We believe you shouldn't have to hand over account access just to get a financial plan.

What information do I need to get started?

You'll want to have a rough idea of your monthly income (after taxes), your major monthly expenses (rent, utilities, subscriptions, etc.), any debts you're carrying (credit cards, student loans, car payments), and what financial goals you're working toward.

Exact numbers help, but estimates work fine. You can always update them later.

Your Dashboard & Tools

What does my dashboard show me?

Your dashboard includes a five-year net worth projection, a savings rate analysis, a debt payoff timeline with a recommended strategy, a budget breakdown comparing your current spending to recommended allocations, and prioritized action items.

You can also run what-if scenarios to see how changes like increasing your savings rate or paying off a specific debt first would affect your plan.

Can I change my answers after I submit the questionnaire?

Yes. Your dashboard is dynamic. You can adjust any input (income, expenses, debts, goals) and your projections update instantly. Life changes, and your plan should change with it.

What are what-if scenarios?

What-if scenarios let you test financial decisions before you make them. For example: What if I save $200 more per month? What if I pay off my credit card before my student loan? What if I get a raise?

You adjust a number and instantly see how it changes your net worth, debt-free date, and savings trajectory. It's the fastest way to understand the real impact of a decision.

How accurate are the projections?

Projections are based on the numbers you provide and standard financial modeling assumptions (interest rates, inflation, market returns). They're designed to give you a realistic picture, not a guarantee. Your dashboard shows baseline, optimistic, and conservative scenarios so you can see a range of outcomes.

The more accurate your inputs, the more useful your projections will be. You can update your numbers anytime as your situation changes.

Does Planit Fi integrate with my bank or brokerage?

Not currently. Planit Fi works with self-entered financial data. We made this choice intentionally because many beginners are uncomfortable linking accounts, and you don't need live transaction data to build a solid financial plan.

Account integrations are on our roadmap for the future.

Francis AI

Who is Francis?

Francis is Planit Fi's AI financial co-pilot. You can ask Francis plain-language questions about your budget, debt, goals, or anything else related to your plan. Francis gives answers based on your actual numbers, not generic advice.

Think of Francis as a knowledgeable friend who can look at your financial picture and help you think through decisions.

What kind of questions can I ask Francis?

Anything about your finances. Some examples:

"How much can I afford to spend on a car?" / "Should I pay off my credit card or start saving?" / "What would happen if I increased my 401k contribution by 3%?" / "Am I saving enough for retirement?" / "How long until I'm debt-free?"

Francis pulls from your dashboard data to give you answers that are specific to your situation.

Is Francis a financial advisor?

No. Francis is an educational tool, not a licensed financial advisor. Francis helps you understand your options and think through decisions, but does not provide personalized investment advice or recommendations to buy or sell specific securities.

For advice tailored to your complete financial situation, consult a certified financial planner.
